How to conduct a private firearm transaction in Massachusetts

If you buy or sell a firearm from someone other than an FFL in the state of Massachusetts, you must report the transaction to the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services Firearms Records Bureau (FRB) via an on-line system. In the top left, click “personal sale or transfer” and follow the instructions to complete a sale. You will need to know your firearms license number and PIN number, the length of the barrel of the gun you are selling or buying, as well as the firearm serial number. At the end of the transaction, you will be given the option to print/save the receipt. Retain a copy for your records.
